Green Makeup

Green, green, green is all we hear.  I’m not suggesting that’s a bad thing, but it’s all we hear.  A lot of us walk the walk by recycling, changing light bulbs, not printing documents and if printing documents, doing double-sided, and the list goes on and on.  And that’s all well and good, but how many of the hard core “greenies” have tossed their beloved make up products – their tried and true products that they’ve invested so much money in — and bought products from companies that are green and eco-friendly?  A tough thing it is to oust those products — the ones that make us look oh so good (at least in dim light), make our lips fuller, eyes brighter and fine lines disappear — when we find out that our favorite companies test their products on animals or are not environmentally friendly.  Blasphemy I tell you!  Am I going to walk the walk or do I “transform” myself in private, not revealing that all my eco talk is for anything BUT my blemishes that need hid and cheeks that need brightened.

When you think of that constant presence of chemicals being introduced into our bodies on a daily basis which we have no control over, you may start to think that it might be nice to at least control the chemicals that you’re putting on your face.  So in the long run, even for the eco resistant group, it probably makes sense to start switching those products.  Not all at once, of course, because who can afford that?

Eco-friendly makeup is made from natural ingredients which are supposed to be good and healthy for your skin.  Not only is makeup made with natural ingredients that are good for your body, but it’s also good for the earth as it reduces the amount of toxins put back in the environment.  And there are some tried and true costmetic lines out there like Stila and Bare Escentuals, which offer refillable cosmetic casings.

Of course, going cosmetically eco friendly can leave your change purse with little more than pennies, but then again, that’s the price of beauty isn’t it?

We’d love to hear from you if you have suggestions for eco-friendly cosmetic companies!

My suggestion for an eco-friendly cosmetic company is my personal choice, Arbonne International. This company is committed to the development of unparalleled products free of harmful ingredients. Their Green Commitment includes responsible harvesting and replenishing of the botanical ingredients it uses as well as using recycling packaging and soy based inks.

The company offers a full line of vegan skin and body care for the entire family, color cosmetics, detoxification spa products and essential nutritional products.

The products are vegan certified, never tested on animals, do not contain animal derived ingredients or bi-products, formaldehyde donating preservatives, petroleum-based ingredients, mineral oil, Phthalates, PABA, artificial colors or perfumes. This company has made it both convenient and economical to eliminate hundreds of toxic chemicals from my daily routine. Ordering online conserves gas, time and money.
