Men Who Aren’t Behaving Badly

By: Demetria Pappas and Lisa Iadicicco

Men NOT behaving badly… hmmm is there such a species?  In the wake of Arnold, Sheen and Weinergate scandals, you have to wonder where all the good men have gone?  “Boys may be boys, but it’s time for men to start acting like men.”

We want to offer you some telltale signs of the good, the bad and the oblivious when it comes to the men in your world.

The Office… You spend the majority of your waking hours at the workplace.

Listen and observe…seemingly innocent terms of endearment or slight touch of hand can lead to a more than what anyone has bargained for.  Keep the physical contact to a healthy handshake.  Remember, adding “honey” or “babe” or “darling” to your vocabulary at work can get you more than you intended.  Simple rule… if you wouldn’t use the term to a same sex co-worker or neighbor, then don’t use for the opposite sex.

You’ve Got Mail… Technology has made our lives much easier in many ways, yet more remote and anonymous in other ways. Sexting, elicit images flying over cyberspace…seemingly smart people making fleeting decisions that impact their lives.

If you can’t post what you want to say in a text or an email in the office break room or post it on the family refrigerator, then don’t send it.  Emails are public documents.

ESPN Zone…or is more like Zone OUT… Lifetime vs. Sportscenter.  There are typically “her” shows, “his” shows and programs you enjoy together. With the advent of cable and DVR, most can be viewed at anytime…compromise is easy and key here.

The Hangover….A dear older gentlemen friend of mine would say “if you’re a man at night be a man in the morning.”  Translation, if your man overindulges in the evening he still is responsible for the next day’s activities.  We all enjoy having a good time but if his good time leads to you feeling uncomfortable or being left with all of the next day responsibilities, then a gentle reminder before he partakes should do the trick.
