Closet Edit

Do you have a closet full of clothes but:
Feel you have nothing to wear?
Feel as though you never have the right outfit for the occasion?
As a result are you buying new for every occasion?
If you can answer “yes” to any of the above, you need to simplify. I recently cleaned and painted my main closet and storage closet. I thought I would just be reorganizing. Was I wrong!!! I consigned a huge box to a charity and hauled 3 bags to Goodwill. The amazing result was that I put the “walk” back into my “walk-in closets”!
Here are a few tips to help you do the same:
You can easily identify the pieces that you want to keep and those you don’t. Next step is more difficult. You may want to enlist the help of a friend or closet consultant. Try on everything you are unsure about. This is where a second opinion is useful. Each garment should make you look and feel good.
What items should go-
- New, never worn , with or without sales tags still attached
- Anything that screams “out of style”, even if you still look good in it [some trends do come around again, but always in an updated way.]
- Anything current or classic, in good condition, that does not fit. [If you think it will fit, clean and store for next year. Then if it still doesn’t fit, get rid of it.]
- Anything worn and beyond reasonable repair.
Take your discards to a resale shop where you can share the proceeds or donate entirely to less fortunate women. Take the rest to Goodwill or Salvation Army
Next you need to decide if your closet would benefit from some structural organization. You can do yourself or hire a closet company.
Now you are ready to replace and rebuild your wardrobe with ONLY clothes you will love and wear.
Next time I will discuss how to shop smart from now on.
