You Deserve to Be Better in 2012.
Mother, May is hoping that the monthly advice you read about in BizChicks will help you become a better person in 2012.The month of January is focusing on listening and listening well. How we listen plays an important part in leaving a great impression:
- Turn not your back to others especially when they are speaking.
- Do not lean on anything when listening.
- When someone is speaking, do not hum to yourself or drum you fingers or feet.
- Read no letters, books, or papers when in the company of someone speaking.
- If anyone comes to speak to you while you are sitting, stand up, though he/she may be your inferior.
- Do not look everywhere about you when listening. Keep your eyes focused on the speaker.
- Ask questions with clarity and repeat the same words that you hear the speaker say.
- Do not interrupt.
Set aside all other thoughts and behaviors and concentrate on the message. Ask questions, reflect, and paraphrase to ensure you understand the message. If you do not, then you will find that what someone says to you and what you hear can be amazingly different!
Start using active listening today to become a better communicator, improve your workplace productivity, and develop better relationships.
