Kristen Lane Offering a Special Workshop for Stressed-Out Chicks (plus a discount!)
  stacey, quinn & me

If you're a typical Chick, you're moving in 12 directions at once, and multi-tasking the whole way.  You know you need to exercise, but you don't have time in the day; plus, gyms aren't your cup of tea.

Here's your answer --  a drum circle on a rooftop-deck on the hot & happenin' Southside while bringing down the sun with yoga!  Bet you haven't done that before.   This edgy way to reduce stress and create energy within yourself is called "Sunset Yoga With Thunder Drums" and promises to be an experience like no other.  Learn a brand-new Sunset Yoga Flow Sequence with X-Yoga instructor Kristen Lane, and pound away your tension as you practice hand drumming fundamentals under the guidance of Musician Extraordinaire Rich Ermlick.  Drums will be provided, or bring your own if you have one.

No prior experience in either yoga or drumming is required.  This is a fun yet challenging, educational yet explorational, wild yet safe environment in which to tap into the tribal goddess within you.  You'll emerge empowered, stronger, and more relaxed...we promise!

(Note: Weather permitting.  In case of rain we will reschedule.)

Donna Bailey Jazz
June Schedule
Message from
  Donna Bailey
DBS Jazz Productions www.donnabaileyjazz.com

Hello friends,

It's been a fun spring season for DBS Jazz - the Pittsburgh Divas got together to raise money to help our friends with Breast Cancer. The concerts were held to contribute to The Pink Tie Affair and to celebrate the 2nd Anniversary of Diva Tuesday at Blue.  What a great time to support a great cause.

Summer is finally here and there are a lot of opportunities for you to hear great live music in the Pittsburgh area.
We're working on new projects, here at DBS Productions -- we'll be sending monthly newsletters with news, photos and announcements.  I'll be checking out the scene at Yoshi's and Jazz at Pearl's in San Francisco in a few days, then back to the recording studio.

We are planning to release my new CD this fall and you'll be invited to all the parties and celebrations. Jeannie already has her party dress.

For more jazz information, please visit my website at www.donnabaileyjazz.com.

Thank you for supporting live music.I hope to see you soon!

(1) Tell us about yourself.

With appropriate attribution to Kristen Lane, I now think of myself as a multi-careerist adventure seeker too.  Currently I am co-owner of Sterling Events with my fabulous business partner, Evelyn Castillo.  I also work as a contracted consultant to Development Dimensions International (DDI) with their Custom Learning Solutions group.  This constitutes the multi-careerist part of my life.

(2) What do you like to do in your spare time?

In my spare time I usually enjoy reading and gardening - and of course playing dress up.  Name a party that involves wearing a costume and I am SO there!  About 6 months ago my crazy friend Cindy Warden convinced me to run a half marathon on behalf of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.  I've been in training since then and will be running the Mayor's Midnight Sun (half) Marathon in Anchorage, Alaska on June 21.  This trip will fulfill my adventure seeking side - - I'm especially looking forward to "flightseeing" over Denali National Park!

(3) What's the toughest thing you've encountered in a work environment?

The toughest thing I've encountered in a work environment are executives who firmly believe they are doing good work, their staff respects them and they are emotionally intelligent leaders, when in fact none of these things is true.  The resulting damage to an organization and its people can be intense.

(4) What would people be surprised to know about you?

People might be surprised to know that I used to work as a car mechanic in high school and dream of refurbishing my own vintage ride some day so that I can drive it in the Vintage Grand Prix!

Athena Awards

The Athena Award program recognizes women for professional excellence, valuable service to the community and assistance to other women in the attainment of professional goals and leadership skills. The Athena Award is widely considered a great honor.

The Allegheny Conference and the Athena Committee are seeking nominations for this year's Athena Award.  Deadline for submissions is June 30th. Finalists will be announced in August, with the winner being announced at a luncheon on September 8th. The luncheon is generally attended by more than 800 people.

In 2005, Chicks Judie Donaldson, Kristen Lane and I were all finalists.  Judie was the very well-deserving winner and Kristen and I were happy losers.  :-)

If you have a female client, colleague or contact that you would like to consider for nomination, information about the Athena program and an on-line nomination form is available at www.athena-pittsburgh.com

Women's Yellow Pages

from Publisher
Anna Marie Gire

Women's Yellow Pages of Greater Pittsburgh has published and distributed more than 50,000 directories since 2006. Because of the interest in other counties a
decision was made to expand the service area to include the Southwest portion of Pennsylvania. The goal of the Women's Yellow Pages of Southwest Pennsylvania  (WYP/SWP) will be to increase awareness and visibility of the diversity of women-owned businesses in this region and to bring those businesses together in a supportive community.

Of the 11 counties represented in the Southwest portion of Pennsylvania, the percentage of women owned businesses are as follows:
·        Allegheny             24%
·        Armstrong           24%
·        Beaver                  28%
·        Butler                   25%
·        Fayette                 28%
·        Green                   19%
·        Indiana                 25%
·        Lawrence             21%
·        Mercer                 21%
·        Washington         21%
·        Westmoreland     25%

WYP/SWP will be distributing more than 60,000 directories in 2008 to: libraries, real estate companies, Chambers of Commerce, shopping malls, bookstores, fitness centers, restaurants, hotels conferences and many other businesses in an eleven county area and to parts of West Virginia.  Women's Yellow Pages will also be distributed at the many women's business and social events in the region that take place during the year.  In addition there will also be an on-line directory,
www.womensindependentpress.com

The role of women in business continues to evolve. We must be diligent and work at overcoming obstacles that impede the progress of women owned businesses by nurturing those businesses and celebrating their success.

I am available to answer any questions you might have about the Women's Yellow Pages of Southwest Pennsylvania.

Sincerely,

Anna Marie Gire
