JENA-ANNE SABOM &
SABOM PRODUCTIONS!
Exciting news for one of our charter Chicks, Jena-Anne, who's opened her new digs in Oxford Center (2nd floor -- right above the food court).
She's made everything in the store! This is a dream come true for her.
If you have been out anywhere in the Pittsburgh area in the past six years there is a good chance you've seen a tall blond, Jena-Anne Sabom, (pronounced: SAY-BOMB!), with her sketchbook and
pencils! Jena-Anne SABOM has been drawing her support for our Steel City for years, and now SABOM asks the Steel City to support her!
From Moondogs to Matrix, Metropol to Madmex, Hartwood Acres, Harris Grill, Seviche, Shadowlounge , Sonoma Grill, The Backstage Bar, Bossa Nova, Cabaret Theater, Club Cafe, Casbah, DeJavu, Jerome Bettis Grill, Laga, Empire, Firehouse Lounge, Brillobox, Matress Factory, the Warhol and many, many more,
Jena-Anne Sabom, has been there and has been DRAWING her support for our city!!!!
On Saturday, September 27, 2008 from 4-9pm Jena-Anne Sabom, in collaboration with Oxford Development, and Meyer, Unkovic & Scott LLP, will hold her First Ever, One-Night-Only, Site-Specific, Solo Store & Art Show on a second floor suite of One Oxford Centre in downtown Pittsburgh!
This is a one-day, one-of-a-kind, once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to view the extent of Sabom's work and invest in one of our city's best-kept secrets and most talented artists!
Born in Pittsburgh and a North Allegheny graduate, Sabom was sought after upon graduating from Edinboro University (Outstanding Senior in Drawing) to help implement Art Programs in the Nashville Public School District. Finally resigning, in order to continue teaching by example, Sabom returned to Pittsburgh in 2002 to incorporate her company, Pittsburgh based SABOM Productions! LLC, and began implementing and marketing her massive art career between here and Manhattan.
While working to launch her own company, Sabom also worked with several Pittsburgh Steelers in the area of set design for their television shows. Additionally, she has come to be known and named as 'One of the Top Designers in the City since she's been back. Sabom's one-of-a-kind, and often notoriously Pittsburgh oriented, fashion designs have been featured in many runway shows and published in a variety of magazines and news papers throughout the city. Until now, however, no one in the Pittsburgh area has known the range of her ambition or seen the full extent of her true talent and passion - her visual artwork!
PITTSBURGH-Don't miss this One Time Only Event and Exhibition! Saturday, September 27, from 4-9pm at One Oxford Centre! Free parking in the garage at Oxford, light food and refreshments provided. Stop by this event before the Feathered Jewels Gala or Flux to support local artist Jena-Anne SABOM! Private appointments conveniently scheduled prior to the Exhibition for the press or for clients who cannot attend that night.

DUE TO OVERWHELMING DEMAND, THIS SEMINAR IS BEING OFFERED AGAIN ON OCTOBER 6 at 12:00
INDEPENDENT CONTRACTORS VERSUS EMPLOYEES
*****************************
In today's workplace, there is an
ever-increasing trend for employers to consider filling vacancies with independent contractors as opposed to committing to a full time employee. A maze of regualtions exist that may or may not make this question easy to answer.
And in trying, many employers find themselves asking:
Can I hold the contractor to the same employment standards as an employee?
Can the contractor supervise employees that I currently employ?
Can I require the contractor to have an exclusive relationship with my company?
Can I pay contractors an hourly rate or do I pay them per project?
Can I offer benefits to the contractor for the contract period?
Can I save money long term by using only independent contractors?
This important seminar outlines the pros and cons of completing your workforce with employees and independent contractors.
Join Attorneys Beth Slagle & Joe Vater for this informative seminar.
Location: Meyer, Unkovic & Scott - Oliver Building - Pittsburgh Please RSVP by: September 30 Beth Ansell at 412.456.2552 or eaa@muslaw.com

INTRODUCING
CORA DELOIA &
THE GIRLFRIEND RECOVERY CLUB
The Girlfriend Recovery Club When their dear friend, Kimberly Ottaviani was diagnosed with cancer, her girlfriends of forty years, living in various cities found a way to show their love and support. Founders, Margy Schmidt of Chapel Hill , NC and Cora DeLoia of Pittsburgh, Pa. decided to send care packages to their friend Kim, a second grade teacher now living in Hollywood, FL. In an effort to boost her spirits and aid in her recovery, Margy came up with the idea of The Girlfriend Recovery Collection whose logo included an uplifting heart, and caring message. An extended web of friends included this message with their packages to show their solidarity, strength and commitment to helping Kim recover. This idea took on a life of it's own.
A 501-C Non- Profit organization, theGirlfriend Recovery Club™ was born.
Our mission is to comfort, guide and inspire recovery of women through a web-based community of friendship. Girlfriends want to help girlfriends. With the Girlfriend Recovery Club™, they can find a place, a home in which to gather, share and put into action, their love and concern. An event happens. A girlfriend gets hit with a disease, a divorce or the death of a loved one. What can be done to aid this friend along the journey of recovery? The Girlfriend Recovery Club™ is there to extend a guiding hand to information, support and products through carefully selected and tested links. This path to wellness is supported by a coalition of care with world-class hospital partners such as Magee-Women's Hospital in Pittsburgh, University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, Brigham Women's in Boston, and University of North Carolina and DUKE in Chapel Hill. There is a growing need for the Girlfriend Recovery Club™ website, programs, tools and resources.
The Girlfriend Recovery Club™ Site Map includes: Resources: links to up to the minute articles and research from world class hospitals, support groups and suppliers of necessary items, The Clubhouse: a forum between friends and those invited to join their network. Blog space to leave messages, provide or receive daily inspiration and prayer. An easy to use private group calendar to assist loved ones in need. Specifically designed for organizing helpers and tasks needed to be done during times of crisis.
The Shop: Beautiful gifts to get and give all to support the cause.
The Girlfriend Recovery Club™ is a unique way to actively participate in your own well being, inside and out. It is a place to go for information and inspiration. A private place to help you gather your thoughts, get a plan of action, and feel the love and support of those around you-your girlfriends. It is a place that feels like
home.

SPOTLIGHT ON
Who are your female role models? Teachers, sisters, moms, co-workers - chances are you have had influential women in your life to guide and inspire you during your journey. Strong Women, Strong Girls, an innovative program that has been in Pittsburgh for almost 2 years, believes all girls are entitled to have strong female role models to challenge, inspire and champion them. Female college students mentor elementary school girls in SWSG's after school program, using a curriculum that teaches girls about influential women in history in a fun, interactive way, using skill-building activities to reinforce lessons learned and service
learning projects to engage the girls in their own communities. The girls, over 160 of them last school year from 12 elementary schools and community centers, hail from Pittsburgh's at-risk communities. Their mentors, college women from 4 universities in Pittsburgh, want to make a difference in the community beyond their campuses as well as develop their own networking and leadership skills. The transformative power of SWSG results in increased aspirations and self-esteem in the girls and new leadership skills in the college women. Each college woman participating in SWSG may also request to have a professional Pittsburgh woman as her mentor, through an innovative SWSG program called Mentor2Mentor. In Mentor2Mentor, one-on-one matches are supplemented with engaging, skill-building events held at various cultural institutions throughout Pittsburgh. Mentor2Mentor intends to increase the college women's networking skills, as well as expose them to all of the great opportunities available in Pittsburgh. This past school year, several Chicks participated as mentors and really enjoyed the experience! If you are interested in learning more about SWSG and Mentor2Mentor, please contact:
